BEYOND BOUNDARIES 2009

AN INTERDISCIPLINARY CONFERENCE

This conference intends to bring together research students and academics from different departments of Bangor University in order to promote understanding of research across departments within the University. It will encourage research students to network with each other and nurture a multidisciplinary outlook which will enrich their own work in future.

First call for papers

Beyond Boundaries 2009

22 – 23 January 2009

Organised by Research Student Forum, Bangor University, Bangor, Gwynedd

We are proud to announce our third annual inter-disciplinary Beyond Boundaries 2009 Conference” to be held at John Phillips Hall.

This conference seeks to encourage innovative and cross-disciplinary dialogue among PhD students who are at different career stages, irrespective of theme or topic of their theses. It also provides a platform for first time presenters to show-case their work, as well as space for meeting and socialising with students from other disciplines. Conference registration is free of charge to all postgraduates registered at Bangor University.

Proposals for presentations are welcomed from postgraduates from all disciplines. Presentations may take the form of papers, readings, performances, posters, film and multimedia demonstrations. Please mention your format of presentation (eg: ppt). Prospective authors are invited to submit 200 word abstracts, guided by a 50 words biography and short summery of your research to RSF Secretary: Shelly Ocsinberg [ocsinberg@bangor.ac.uk] by 5pm on Monday 20th October 2008.

Authors are requested to submit the abstract as an e-mail attachment in Microsoft Word format, following this order: author(s)’ name, year of study and department, email address, title of abstract, body of abstract. Authors are also requested to use plain text (Times Roman 12) and abstain from using any special formatting, characters or emphasis (such as bold, italics or underline). The abstract for the proposed research should include the research objectives, proposed methodology, and a discussion of expected outcomes.

Oral presentations will be 15 minutes followed by 5 minutes for questions from the audience. Presentations may be in Welsh or in English, and simultaneous translations will be available. The size of posters should not exceed A0. All presenters will be expected to be available by their posters during scheduled periods so that they can discuss their work. Poster boards and display materials will be provided. Accepted presentations will be announced by email early December 2008. An independent panel will also award prizes for the best talk and poster presentation

Rydym yn falch o gyhoeddi ein trydedd gynhadledd ryngddisgyblaethol flynyddol Cynhadledd y Tu Hwnt i Ffiniau 2009 ”.

Nod y gynhadledd hon yw annog dialog arloesol a rhyngddisgyblaethol rhwng myfyrwyr PhD sydd ar gyfnodau gwahanol yn eu gyrfaoedd, ni waeth beth yw thema neu bwnc eu traethodau. Mae hefyd yn cynnig llwyfan i rai sy’n cyflwyno am y tro cyntaf i arddangos eu gwaith, yn ogystal â lle i gyfarfod a chymdeithasu gyda myfyrwyr o ddisgyblaethau eraill. Mae cofrestriad yn y gynhadledd am ddim i’r holl fyfyrwyr ôl-radd sydd wedi eu cofrestru ym Mhrifysgol Bangor.

Croesewir cynigion ar gyfer cyflwyniadau gan fyfyrwyr ôl-radd o unrhyw ddisgyblaeth. Gall cyflwyniadau fod ar ffurf papurau, darlleniadau, perfformiadau, posteri, ffilmiau ac arddangosiadau amlgyfrwng. Gwahoddir darpar-awduron i gyflwyno crynodebau 200 gair i Ysgrifennydd Fforwm y Myfyrwyr Ymchwil: Shelly Ocsinberg [Ocsinberg@bangor.ac.uk] erbyn 5pm ddydd Llun 20 Hydref 2008.

Gofynnir i awduron gyflwyno’r crynodeb fel atodiad e-bost ar ffurf Microsoft Word, gan ddilyn y drefn hon: enw(au) awdur(on), blwyddyn astudio ac adran, cyfeiriad e-bost, teitl y crynodeb, corff y crynodeb. Gofynnir hefyd i awduron ddefnyddio ffont plaen (Times Roman 12) a pheidio â defnyddio unrhyw fformat, symbolau neu bwyslais arbennig (megis print trwm, italeg neu danlinellu). Dylai crynodeb yr ymchwil arfaethedig gynnwys yr amcanion ymchwil, y fethodoleg a gynigir a thrafodaeth ar y canlyniadau a ddisgwylir.

Chwarter awr fydd hyd y cyflwyniadau llafar gyda 5 munud i’r gynulleidfa ofyn gwestiynau. Gall cyflwyniadau fod yn Gymraeg neu Saesneg a bydd cyfieithu ar y pryd ar gael. Ni ddylai’r posteri fod yn fwy na A0. Disgwylir i’r holl gyflwynwyr fod wrth eu posteri yn ystod cyfnodau a drefnir fel y gallant drafod eu gwaith. Darperir byrddau poster a deunyddiau arddangos. Cyhoeddir y cyflwyniadau a dderbyniwyd trwy e-bost ddechrau Rhagfyr 2008. Bydd panel annibynnol yn dyfarnu gwobrau hefyd ar gyfer y sgwrs orau a’r cyflwyniad poster gorau.

Oh great, your written is good to me. I traveled last year and stayed 1 months in Bangor hotels and the people there is really nice.
